Companies using water stewardship Programme to combat water conservation issues
Water stewardship refers to the use of water friendly activities that industrial companies can adopt to promote environment sustainability.
Water is one of the major resource and important factor in the Livelihood of people. Its irresponsible use can lead to many drastic effects on lives of people and the environment.
Thus, Organizations and group like ITC amongst many has their own unique water stewardship Programme through which they maintain water resources.
The main activities under this programme are using rainwater storage sites for collecting rainwater.
And promoting the Agricultural activities that help in managing water scarcity issues.
Uganda’s rural school’s water conservation efforts
Riverside High School in Uganda is doing a remarkable job when it comes to rainwater harvesting.
The whole school uses its rooftop area as storage of rainwater- which consists of 1,020 cubic meters total of cement tanks.
The school uses most of its water collected for daily activities like cleaning, cooking, handwashing, flushing.
A UV filtration system for using this water for drinking purpose is also functioning .
Along with it, they are also self sufficient in terms of food - they grow their own food and use up the organic wastes to feed the chickens.
Schools like these are examples to the nations that are well developed in comparison to these regions and yet have a long way to go for environment conservation.
Water crisis management should be our first priority
Water is a predominant factor of life on earth. Without its availability , 90 percent of agriculture will cease. And human life will face existential threat .
All around the world, water resources are not being kept in healthy state. Rivers and oceans are being polluted, climate change is causing poor rainfall patterns and droughts which further deteriorate this resources.
The issue of the Water crisis was hence highlighted during COP28 to understand and to implement solutions.
The conference further issued that saving water and proper water resource management is mostly ground level work. And needs ground level action to curb this problems.
Responsible water management and its use is a top most priority which all Nations must consider.
Millets can aid in water scarcity issues
Millets are staple to regions of Africa and India.
Widely used as food in many of these areas It’s mostly grown in dry regions with little need of water .
Agriculture amounts to one third use of present water resources.
Rising need for food creates pressure to produce more food items. This leads to more water use as well.
It is predicted in many research studies that by 2030 many countries can face issues related to water.
Due to these millets can be good choice to fill up this void. They can be the solution worldwide to combat water scarcity
Melting glaciers all over the globe
The most recent 2022 – 2023 survey has recorded an equivalent to 4 feet of ice being melted off of each glacier surveyed.
Our glaciers are important for the balance of our ecosystems.
